Monday Musings

The one concept I can’t quite wrap my head around is slander. Help me out here! You wake up one day and make up some malicious lie or other about someone and pass it on knowing full well it isn’t true? What colour does your inside have to be to consciously hurt someone else in this manner? It gets me every time. I mean, I get that people have over-active imaginations and sometimes they feel the need to put their brains to use by coming up with one story or other but need I mention that there’ll never be too many fiction books out there? We could all use some good fiction every now and then so when people’s creative sides itch to fabricate stories about other people, why don’t they just pick pens and write? Or at least remember to footnote their untruth with “this story is purely fiction. Any resemblance in character or actions to persons living is purely coincidental”. And while they’re at it, why don’t the rest of us make an effort to verify the stories we hear before we regard them as gospel truth?
The thing about slander is that it destroys lives. And one day when you’re on the receiving end, you’ll want the other person to do the same for you (I.e verify the info). Remember the Golden rule people; “Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.
Everyone deserves a fair trial (innocent until proven guilty). Everyone deserves to be heard out. There’s always another side to every story. And most importantly, always remember that every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.
Everybody messes up. So whether you are the slanderer or the condemning listener, please remember that it’s them today but it will be you tomorrow. And if that doesn’t help, try asking yourself if you would say that thing you said about that person if they could hear you. If the answer is no, then don’t say it. Its that simple!

On that note, I hope your weeks are as amazing as my weekend was 🙂

Shalom!
